GMG Group, LLC (GMG)is the managing body of:
Gyroscope Radio (est. 2010), Glory Songs Radio (est. 2015), KOM TV (est. 2020) Why did you start GMG Group, LLC? I used to work/intern at 99.3, The Joint, an upcoming early internet radio station in 2008. At the time, the owner of the station did not foresee what it could be and was just providing the space. The owner was a cool guy but did not put the time into the station and left running the station to us. After about one year, everybody just dispersed. That was one of the things I learned, you have to know the in’s and out’s of your business. I knew I wanted to know all aspects of this business. Also, my son was on the way and there was a probability he would be born with a form of Down Syndrome. This would be a way for me to make my own hours and if he needed something, I would be available. I felt no job would give me that. While he was a baby, I could get all the leg work done for the station. That is how GMG Group, LLC started with GyroScope Radio as the first station. GlorySongs formed when I started getting pastors who wanted to do podcasts. God will always be present in both stations, but this gives a larger platform for minsters, preachers, bishops and rabbis to expand their ministries and spread the word for people in Canada, Vietnam, Netherlands and around the world to hear it. ClubHouse Radio is the newest station established in 2019. What motivates you about the stations? God uses different people to get His message across. I don’t know exactly who we’re helping, but I hope it’s helping whoever is listening. It could be people from around the world or around the corner. When they’re listening to one of the gospel shows or GS Radio, it helps them. In a sense, we were there at the right time, and if one of the shows or maybe one of the personalities might have changed them from doing something that might have ended their life, that’s a plus. What are the difficulties dealing with new personalities on the stations? Sometimes the personality wants to do a certain segment on their show, and I know that it's not going to work out. When I try to explain why their idea isn’t going to work, they get upset so I just sit back and let it happen. With allowing their idea to continue, they can experience or understand what I was trying to tell them, if it fails. Do you think they have a misconception of this being something other than 24/7 internet radio station? We are a worldwide live radio station, with people listening at any time in over 198 countries around the world. It could be 10:30 pm in Englewood, NJ USA right now but someone is logged in listening to any one of the stations in the middle of the day in Chile. What are the difficulties new personalities have on the stations? TV production is completely different from radio broadcasting, that is the biggest thing I have to explain to some of the personalities. You have to embrace the technology, and it helps to put a face to voice. If these video cameras weren’t on, we still are a radio station. Is there a type of personality for stations that you are looking to attract? I don’t look for a particular type of person. There could be many components that person might share from the beginning. Others might not share it at all. With each show, if the person gets into it, you’re constantly learning more about that person than the initial meeting. Sometimes you have to pull it out, and everyone does it. Then with just doing it, little bits and pieces come out, I just have to watch and study. Then you have the person that comes in and it’s just nerves. But, once they find their groove, the ones that catch their niche, it’s like “OK”. You’re planting something, some of it is going to grow, some of it is not. You really just have to sit back and be patient and see how they blossom. But then you have some who just have that natural talent, a spirit and it’s just nothing to them. They reel you in, no papers in front of them, they just go. But I have to know it on my end of it, I have patience to see what comes out of each person because everyone is different. You have had people come and go on GS Radio. What do you feel are the reasons they did not continue? A couple but it was different reasons, some personal reasons or they just didn’t realize the work that you have to put into producing the show. To get the best quality, winging it is not going to work. Once they can’t meet the requirements, it’s cool. There’s been people that thought they wanted to do it but didn’t have it to do it. Not to say they were a bad person, but this particular thing wasn’t for them. Where do you feel it is all leading you? Five years from now, I would like to have a bigger space and be able to split the stations. For example, secular and non-secular to run 24/7 with live shows and music. Currently, while Glory Songs is broadcasting live, I play music on GS radio. While broadcasting live on GS Radio, I replay sermons from the gospel programming. Something to share with the world: The personalities on all the stations are stars. They are being recognized where they go and have fans and followers. I want them to see themselves for the Steve Harveys they are. They should have write-ups about them so there is more information available to the world about them and they can say, “Yes, I have a bio or yes, there is an article about me.” It’s about the Pastors sharing their testimonies the same way you see in church or on tv; we do that here. The same way Mary J Blige fans are able to respond to her music, the fans and followers of GS Radio should have the same way to reach their favorite personalities. They have to have the mindset they are nothing less than stars.
