 United for Dignity: Local Unions Rally at East Orange VA Hospital

Today, the heart of East Orange pulsed with unity and purpose as local unions gathered outside the VA Hospital to demand justice, safety, and respect for frontline workers. GS Radio Newark was on the ground to capture the voices, visuals, and energy of a movement that refuses to be ignored.

Voices That Matter Union members from across New Jersey - representing healthcare, public service, and veterans’ advocacy, stood shoulder to shoulder in solidarity. Their message was clear:
“Protect the workers who protect our veterans.” “Safe staffing saves lives.” “Respect is not optional … it’s essential.” "Give us our contract back!"

Speakers called out President Donald Trump for making this decision. The rally’s deeper urgency centered on the growing threat of VA privatization. Union workers reported being locked out of their offices, stripped of their contract, and targeted by efforts to dismantle union protections. Many emphasized that the fight isn’t just about labor … it’s about defending the public institution that serves our veterans. They also stressed that without these workers, patients at the VA will not receive the care they need. The frontline staff are the backbone of the hospital, and their absence would directly impact the quality and accessibility of care for those who rely on it most.

This is not a distant threat … it’s happening now. Offices are being shuttered, contracts revoked, and union voices silenced. If these actions continue unchecked, the very foundation of veteran care in East Orange could collapse.

Why This Moment Matters The East Orange VA Hospital has long been a cornerstone of care for veterans in our region. But behind the scenes, workers have faced mounting challenges … from PPE shortages to burnout and underfunding. Today’s rally wasn’t just a protest, it was a promise to keep fighting until every worker is protected, every contract is honored, and every veteran receives the care they deserve.

Community in Action Local residents, veterans, and union leaders joined the rally, holding signs that read “Union Strong,” “Veterans Deserve Better,” “Stop VA Privatization,” Give Back Our Contract” and “Dump Trump” The energy was electric, the message unified: We see you ... We stand with you!

Before the world meets my next event, my next flyer, my next unstoppable creative wave … I had to meet myself again.

For years, I've poured light into other people ... family, friends, community, strangers whose stories I’ve carried like sacred notes in a melody. I’ve been the voice that lifts, the hug that heals, the energy behind the scenes and in front of the lens.

But somewhere along the way … I forgot to pour into ME.

I’ve danced through burnout wearing sparkles and smiles, convincing myself I was okay while holding everyone else's stories like they were my own. And don't get me wrong ... I Love to love. I was born to give. But lately, giving without receiving has felt heavy. And my heart whispered something I couldn’t ignore:

“Peace is your birthright too.”

So I paused. I breathed. I chose softness. I chose ME.

Let me be real ... it’s not easy. When you’re used to proving your worth with work, showing love through action, building connections that sometimes don’t feed you back… choosing peace can feel like rebellion. But it’s not rebellion ... it’s healing.

"Peace isn’t quiet ... it’s powerful."

It’s honoring my energy. It’s letting go of spaces where my name only lives in convenience. It’s believing I deserve love "without conditions."

So today, I’m claiming this truth:

"Peace Looks Good On Me".

I wear it like velvet confidence. Like a Sunday prayer whispered into rhythm. Like knowing I can rest, and the world will still turn ... because even when I’m still, I’M ENOUGH.

And if you’ve been feeling the same ... tired, stretched thin, wondering if you’re allowed to choose yourself ... let me remind you: You are.
Your peace doesn't make you selfish. It makes you sacred.

Say it with me, Love:
"Peace looks good on me."

Say it again. Let it sink in. Let it shine. ✨
